Portland Property Tax Exxemption For New Homes

In Portland Housing market, there is a new tax exemption(LTE) program for newly constructed homes. This exemption reduces the homeowners monthly payments, and saves them thousands of dollars in the 10 year period.

-The builder would of had to apply for this program before even gaining building permits.
-The home must be owner occupied in throughout the exemption period.
-Property taxes become fully assessed once the ten year exemption period is over.

It still is true that  nothing is a more sound investment that a home purchase. But there is more to home ownership expenses that the mortgage, insurances and property taxes. This is true whether you purchase a new Portland home or older residence. You must plan for repairs and other expenses. A good rule of thumb is to put away 1% of the purchase price annually for repairs. This is a great way to save if you do not have to use it for repairs.
