How do I know I’m choosing the right realtor to sell my home?

Any good realtor will visit your home and deliver what is called a listing presentation to earn your trust and gain your business. This formal presentation includes detailed information about how your agent proposes to sell your home through networking and advertising. Don’t list your home with an agent who doesn’t provide one. What is a fair asking price for my home?

When Terrie Cox comes to your home for the listing presentation (see above) she will bring a Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) of your home. A CMA compares your home to others like it in Portland and Vancouver that have recently sold, and also to others that are currently for sale. This is a very important way to determine the fair market value of your home.

Will selling my home “For Sale by Owner” save me money on the commission?

Selling your own home can be a tempting option considering that most realtors require a 6% or 7% commission for their work. Here are a few facts to consider before attempting this:

• Over 85% of all homes are sold using a realtor.
• Over 90% of For Sale by Owner homes end up listing on the MLS anyway.
• 90% of buyers are already working with a buyer’s agent, who will be entitled to some commission from you, the seller.
